How many times does someone brag about launching three games at the same time? It’s a momentous day for the team at Paradox, along with our friends at Xbox, Codeglue and Harebrained Schemes, as we can all bring the amazing universe of shadow run to life for a new audience. If you somehow managed to never experience shadow run in its nearly 35-year history, you are going to experience something special, and we are honored to be the ones to welcome you into this world of megabodies, magic, and mystery. Xbox Game Pass players now have three entry points into this incredible setting – Return of Shadowrun, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong, all available collectively as Shadowrun Trilogy.
shadowrun, for the uninitiated, is a role-playing game set in a dark, dystopian future, where advanced technology and magic intertwine in a web of corporate espionage, urban warfare and cybercrime. Players take on the role of eponymous and anonymous ‘shadowrunners’, specialists and agents who do the dirty work for powerful corporations and syndicates when there’s data to hack or heads to crack. The setting has gotten deeper, more intriguing and increasingly popular with each new edition and game, and we’re not the only ones thinking so; the original PC version of Return of Shadowrun was funded on Kickstarter in just 28 hours!
The Harebrained Schemes team, including the original creators of shadowrun, brought this fantasy world to life as an isometric tactical RPG with Return of Shadowrun on PC, and both gamers and reviewers have responded in a big way; big enough for the team to build two more games, Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Shadowrun: Hong Kong. There have been many fantastic new experiences from the table side of shadowrun, also, with the sixth edition of the TTRPG kernel released as Shadowrun: Sixth World recently, and Sixth World Companion book full of new character options just this year!
Nothing makes us happier than when people visit this wild and weird world for the first time, and when we’ve had the opportunity to work with Harebrained Schemes, Codeglue and Xbox to bring the Shadowrun Trilogy on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, we immediately assembled a team of deckers, optimizing these fantastic games for controllers and improving console performance. Now we can share shadow run three times with everyone on Xbox Game Pass, and let new players experience the incredible stories and tactical combat of these famous classics.
Plus, there’s a lot going on this summer for shadow run fans who have been there for a while too. The classic RPG jumps into the realm of the virtual tabletop on Roll20 with a free version of the Shadowrun: Sixth World Quick start rules! This introductory set will be followed by full digital versions of the Core Rulebook and the new Sixth World Companion soon, so you can find out shadow run no matter where and how you play, and enjoy this amazing world all summer long.
Enter our world with the Shadowrun Trilogy and let us know what you think — we’ll see you in the shadows.
