Captain on deck!
What could inspire a pirate to splash out and spend gold on his own ship? For starters, captains can assign a name of their choosing to a new ship for all to see, visible both on the ship crest or in ship banners when someone is spying on you from a distance.
Captains can also purchase a host of new decorative options for their quarters (ranging from rugs to the captain’s table itself), not to mention making the ship truly unique by choosing places to display trinkets. A vast selection of ornaments can be purchased immediately, while trophies can be earned by establishing yourself as a consumes Captain and will reflect your time at sea.
Whether you’re a dedicated treasure hunter, fishing fanatic, or just can’t get enough of smashing skellies, your actions will be reflected in Pirate and Ship Milestones, a new form of progression that encourages different playstyles. New rewards will become available along the way, and you can show off your favorite achievements in the Captain’s Log, which also keeps track of your current boating session.
Shipwrights and Sovereigns
Outposts are more than ready to handle the arrival of commanded ships. For a fee, shipbuilders will save a captain’s ship customization ready for future sessions, meaning it will be as you remember it the next time you wake up in the tavern. Scuffs and scars from previous repairs will accumulate over time, so pirates may also choose to restore them at the shipbuilder, returning even the most dilapidated ship to its original condition.
Shipbuilders can also deliver premium supplies to the barrels of an ordered ship. This courtesy extends to Captain’s Voyages, which are stored aboard the ship rather than in your pirate’s pockets and allow you to influence the difficulty and duration of your next objective. .
Eager to make sure the shipbuilders don’t take all the glory, posh rulers have arrived at the outposts ready to deal with captains of all kinds. They act as very convenient intermediaries, accepting most treasures at their marquee on behalf of other companies and allowing commissioned ships full use of their facilities when unloading valuables.
Of course, you don’t have to be a captain to enjoy the next installments of our ongoing, time-limited adventures. These continue on August 18 with “A Hunter’s Cry,” which sends pirates on a risky rescue mission through hostile waters in hopes of rescuing captured hunter Merrick.
Along with 100 levels of Seasonal Fame to earn, new accolades and achievements, and the continuing intrigue of our first mystery, there’s plenty waiting in Season 7 for every pirate to bite into!
The Emporium expands
Naturally, a new season brings its share of new treasures. The Season Seven Plunder Pass offers early access to the Baleful Bloom costume – which sees your pirate gradually succumb to a horticultural hex – and the Beachcomber’s Bounty ship set, created by a derelict sailor who made himself seaworthy with anything he could get his hands on. As always, once a pass is purchased, these items are unlocked by increasing your fame and climbing new season levels, and are initially exclusive to the Plunder Pass before coming to the Pirate Emporium at a later date.
Eager to partake in the fun of the Captaincy, the August Emporium Deals introduce additional designs for ship crests, giving your newly named ship some extra flair when someone – crew, boarders, stowaways, etc. – get on board. If your chosen name no longer seems to fit as your ship shapes its legacy, Rename Deeds can be purchased to clean up the ship’s crest and allow you to choose something new.
If you’re the kind of pirate who lights up dark places (and not with firebombs), the Wrecker Wrangler light-up ship set calls to you from the shelves of the Emporium this month, paying homage to those fickle fish that call shipwrecks their home. Meanwhile, Loud Bilge Rat’s weapon pose emote and bloated wearable portrait emote pack will bring out your happy and self-centered side, respectively. And don’t forget to capture the Promising Portrait emote while it’s free, then use it to turn any view into a wonky work of art!
