Smart Thermostat Review: Honeywell Home

A few months ago a Resideo technician installed our new Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor in our house, and you can make a difference. The house is more comfortable, there is less drastic temperature change between rooms, and best of all, there has been a difference in our monthly heating and cooling bills.

A quick recap for you: Our 1950s home is incredibly inefficient when it comes to heating, cooling, and temperature control. Due to the layout of the house, some rooms get the sun all day and get warm, while others stay downright cold. After living with these temperature swings for the past two years, we had to sort this out. (Read more on the subject here.)

Part of the motivation is our current spending freeze. I had reviewed all of our expenses with a fine-tooth comb, looking for places where we could reduce (or eliminate expenses altogether). This house is a project house, but I had no idea of the cost of utilities when we moved. Minnesota temperatures can swing 100 degrees throughout the year, so we need to be as efficient as possible.

There had to be a more efficient way to make the house comfortable without spending a lot of money (namely, replacing our two furnaces). I love a good challenge, and in this case, I was determined to lower our energy bill.

I was very excited about the Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor as it connected to our smart home hubs. I’m all about smart home upgrades when you can to make your home more efficient.

Here are a few other things I noticed after switching to the Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor:

I can adjust the temperature in specific rooms.

Before: South Side – HOT all day; North Side – Cold

After: With the Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor, I can control the temperature in SPECIFIC rooms. Yes. It can be 69 in the family room and 71 in the peach room. Beyond that, the Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor can detect motion if someone is in the room and adjust accordingly.

I can adjust the temperature from anywhere.

Before: The temperature setting was done manually via the wheel. No programming function or remote capability.

After: I can adjust the temperature from my phone. I can schedule, heat/cool, turn on/off, and adjust all settings on the fly.

I get temperature alerts.

Before: Nothing. It was always a surprise (an unpleasant one) when the bill came in each month.

After: I can get notified if the temperature changes in one room or another and make rational decisions in the moment rather than promising to keep the house at 64°C in the winter and 80°C in the summer to save the money.

I can’t recommend doing “smart” upgrades enough when you can. Products with apps and connections to smart home hubs such as Honeywell Home T10 Pro Smart Thermostat with Redlink® Room Sensor have made a difference in the comfort of our home and our energy bill.

Oh! If you have a leak-prone basement, I highly recommend the Resideo WiFi Water Leak Detector. A few months ago we had a pretty big storm. Literally the smallest puddle of water (about the size of a spilled glass of water) was enough to trigger the sensor and send an alert to my phone. It’s good to fix the problem immediately rather than being surprised by a flooded basement the next day.
